Whilst many of us at GAMR loved Star Wars: Battlefront for it’s epic space action, sincere representation of the original trilogy and for being straight up fun, it did quite quickly become stale. Unless playing with friends the limited depth of content on offer became familiar and the sense overall tactile battles we’d hoped for began to devolve into piecemeal shooter fair.
Of course, had there been an epic 10 hour campaign to compliment this then game would of given us that true level of depth we’d wanted providing engaging single player to balance out those epic multiplayer battles when our friends were online too. It’s therefore interesting to hear that EA made a “Conscious decision” not to build in a full single player campaign so that the game could launch alongside the huge movie behemoth of Star Wars: The Force Awakens.
At the EA Investor Briefing, EA Studio boss Patrick Söderland confirmed the reasoning behind the lack of single player content in this initial release. However, he went on to state that “Star Wars: Battlefront came out, we got criticised for the depth and breadth of it. So as we look at why that was, we have to go back and course-correct that for another version if we were ever to build one.”
Given the rumours starting to swirl that DICE and EA are preparing a follow up to Battlefront for 2017, it seems clear that as and when that game rears it’s head we should expect a more concise and engaging single player experience to be included with it.
