Going back to the beginning of the FPS genre – arguably the most prominent genre in modern-day gaming – one of the biggest names in the game was Quake. With the recent resurgence of quality legendary titles getting fantastically redeveloped to feel modern yet classic like Doom and Wolfenstein, it was surely only a matter of time before Quake was back biting at our ankles.
Announced with an epic cinematic trailer which you can see below, the original arena based team-shooter beast is back with a new focus on eSports play. The new title; Quake Champions was explained in more detail by iD Software Studio director Tim Willits who said “Yes, Quake is back” before continuing to describe the game as a “Competitive arena-style first person shooter for the pc designed for players of all skill levels. Whether you are new to Quake or have been fragging for the last 20 years, Quake Champions will give you the challenge and rush you’d expect from iD software multiplayer games.”
Further relaying the focus on eSports play Willits noted “iD has a long tradition of supporting competitive tournaments. The game is designed for world-class eSports play at every level”. More information on the game will be revealed at the upcoming QuakeCon this August.
