In a surprising bit of news today, a brand new Harry Potter short story has been published by JK Rowling on her pottermore.com website, it does however require you to sign up to read it. The story set out as a small tabloid piece from the Daily Prophet as written by none other than Rita Skeeter chronicles the appearance of Harry, Ron and Hermione at that years Quidditch World Cup.
The story gives us something of an insight into the lives of the characters after the pages of JK Rowlings Deathly Hallows and ties in well with the future scenes at the end of the movie of the same name. In the short story, Harry is described as 34 years old with “Threads of silver” in his hair and a brand new scar on his right cheekbone. A potential wound picked up in Harry’s adult career as an Auror.
Many other characters make an appearance from the likes of Viktor Krum to Neville Longbottom, now the professor of Herbology at Hogwarts. Of course Ron and Hermione’s relationship continues to flourish, with Ron now co-manager of Weasleys’ Wizard Wheezes and Hermione most befitting of her character having scaled the heights of success to become the Head of the Department for Magical Law Enforcement.
It’s no doubt great for all Potter fans to get a small glimpse into the lives of these fantastic characters once more especially with the tease of their future lives. It seems at odds with what Rowling has discussed about continuing any stories in the Harry Potter world with her original trio as adults. Perhaps this is a small inclination that maybe she isn’t quite finished with them yet? Could we see new stories perhaps focused on Harry and Ginny’s children James and Albus with the original characters positioned in supporting slots? It certainly peaks our interest!
What did you think to this new short Harry Potter story from JK Rowling? Did you enjoy it and has it left you wanting for more or had you had enough of Harry Potter a long time ago?
The story can be read online now by joining Rowling’s Pottermore.com website.
