It’s been something of an unusual journey to see the development of FOX’s new reimagined Fantastic 4 reboot come to fruition. There’s been plenty of controversy with the casting of a younger team than that seen in the comics as well as a lot of disinterest to what feels like a cash grab from FOX to take advantage of the minimal Marvel properties they retain the movie rights to. But, based on the trailer below if you take this as something of a unique alternate universe version of the Fantastic 4 then you might be rather pleasantly surprised.
Well check that out, we’ve got to admit we’re rather surprised by the trailer and whilst there’s definitely some things that have left us rather gobsmacked and confused we think those teases of the characters powers in the trailer look insane. That said we had high hopes with Josh Trank the director of Chronicle helming the movie and it looks like the intense visceral style he showcased in that directorial debut will be in full force for the Fantastic 4.
Attached to the new teaser video is a plot synopsis of the film and it certainly confounds expectations and most certainly will shock fans of the comics with it’s dramatic change to the teams origins:-
“FANTASTIC FOUR, a contemporary re-imagining of Marvel’s original and longest-running superhero team, centers on four young outsiders who teleport to an alternate and dangerous universe, which alters their physical form in shocking ways. Their lives irrevocably upended, the team must learn to harness their daunting new abilities and work together to save Earth from a former friend turned enemy.”
So that sounds rather intriguing right? And let’s be honest, ‘friend turned enemy’ absolutely solidifies that we’ll be seeing Doctor Doom as the main antagonist of the movie. Though perhaps that last line is a red herring to make us unprepared for a more unique threat in the movie. What did you think to the new trailer and plot synopsis? Are you excited to watch the new Fantastic 4 movie and what do you think of the origin altering new plot synopsis? Let us know in the comments below.
