After yesterday’s surprising reveal that Microsoft has been covertly paying for positive YouTube videos with Xbox One coverage, a lot of questions and concerns have been raised. Thankfully Microsoft have now responded to the news with the following:-
“Microsoft was not aware of individual contracts Machinima had with their content providers as part of this promotion and we didn’t provide feedback on any of the videos. We have asked Machinima to not post any additional Xbox One content as part of this media buy and we have asked them to add disclaimers to the videos that were part of this program indicating they were part of paid advertising.”
Well that’s certainly fairly direct, Machinima seems to be considered responsible for the issue as far as Microsoft’s concerned. Is this Microsoft simply covering their tracks aiming to alleviate what could be a bigger issue both legally and with the trust of their consumers?
