Whilst the biggest and most surprising casting announcement recently for Batman Vs Superman has been that of Jesse Eisenberg taking up the role of Lex Luthor. There has indeed been another important casting announcement, that of Jeremy Irons set to play Alfred Pennyworth the resourceful and trusted butler to Ben Afleck’s Batman. Much like Lex Luthor before him, no one was certain that Alfred would appear as a character in the film, thankfully this casting has put that speculation to rest.
When discussing the character Zack Snyder said “As everyone knows, Alfred is Bruce Wayne’s most trusted friend, ally and mentor, a noble guardian and father figure. He is an absolutely critical element in the intricate infrastructure that allows Bruce Wayne to transform himself into Batman. It is an honor to have such an amazingly seasoned and gifted actor as Jeremy taking on the important role of the man who mentors and guides the guarded and nearly impervious facade that encapsulates Bruce Wayne”
How do you feel about this casting? With Irons an exceptional actor it feels like a great fit with true weight that should help substantially ground and give an even stronger first screen appearance for Ben Affleck’s Batman.
Batman Vs Superman is set to come to cinemas May 6th 2016.
