Captain America: The Winter Soldier plot to directly influence Avengers 2 & Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D

Talking to ComingSoon Disney CEO Robert Iger has revealed some tantalising hints about the upcoming Captain America: The Winter Soldier’s wider reaching impact on the Marvel Cinematic universe and additionally the Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D TV series.

With so many Marvel movies now being produced and a cycle of two films per year, it often raises questions of how the movies work alongside each other and how cohesive the shared timeline is. Discussing this point Iger commented that the upcoming Captain America movie’s story will “Set critical events in motion” that will affect Marvel’s Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D TV series. Not only this but the plot of ‘The Winter Soldier’ will directly lead into the events of next May’s Avengers: Age of Ultron.

Considering we’ve still another Marvel movie to release this year, Guardians of the Galaxy, Iger’s comments may well suggest that it will not directly affect Age of Ultron. As speculated by IGN it’s quite possible that this could instead be developing and leading towards setting up Thanos who has already been confirmed to feature in the movie as a more significant and overarching villain to the entire cinematic universe. Could it indeed start to set events in motion for the likely Avengers 3 in several years time?

With this new update i’m certainly even more excited to see Captain America: The Winter Soldier and indeed how it’s plot will have such large ramifications on the current Marvel cinematic universe. How do you feel about these links? Isn’t it awesome to see Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D being woven deeper into the cinematic universe given that it currently feels a little more standalone?
