For a long time now we’ve all known that the upcoming Captain America: Civil War would take elements from the excellent comic book of the same name pitting two of Marvel’s biggest heroes against one another. With Iron Man and Captain America set to face off, we wondered, like many others, would there be a greater evil at hand? Perhaps a catalyst that causes this face off, and inevitably could cause our heroes to reunite with one another to avoid a much greater fate than that which brings them to blows.
Now, we finally know who that villain will be. Actor Daniel Bruhl, known for his roles in Rush and Inglourious Basters has stated in an interview with The Independent that he will playing the role of the classic Captain America villain Baron Zemo. As in the comics we expect this iteration to be the 13th Baron Zemo, the modern day incarnation of the character, likely one of the final remnants of HYDRA potentially orchestrating this rift in the heroes from behind the scenes.
Assuming the movie’s Baron Zemo is an amalgamation of both the 12th and 13th Barons (World War II and Modern Day) we expect his physical appearance to include the classic hood the character is known for in the comics, it may even be permanently attached. As a character Baron Zemo poses a great tactical and intellectual threat to our heroes, he’s both strategically gifted and an exceptional leader. Could he have rallied the remaining members of HYDRA to put into place a plot to try and bring down the avengers at large?
Captain America: Civil War starts filming in the next few months for a May 6th 2016 release. After the MCU shattering events of Captain America: The Winter Soldier are you as excited as we are to see where Marvel will take this next Captain America and in turn the impact it will have on the MCU as a whole moving towards Avengers: Infinity War in 2018.
