We recently reported on the upcoming sale of Michael Thommason’s epicly large video game collection, a collection so large it included over 11,000 games and was awarded the Guinness world record for the largest known collection. With bids starting at a very pleasantly low $250 for what is a huge slice of gaming history, rarities and absolute gems, it was asking to be a free for all.
Of course, given the size of the collection it was always unlikely that it would go for a small sum, many including ourselves expected a figure well over a cool $1 Million and as the weeks of the auction progressed the sum very quickly and sharply rose. The collection, which you can read about in more detail on our original post was amassed over a total of 25 years. No small feat of dedication by any means, with Thommason sad to see it go, did all his hardwork pay off and was the payout worth it?
The auction recently closed to a grand total of $750,250 a little bit less than we ourselves had expected, though hopefully substantial enough to satisfy it’s original owners loss. With that total it means Thommason has received a pretty cool $68 on average for each of the games in his collection. If someone would give us $68 for all our naff old copies of Fifa then we’d be pretty happy!
