Huge rumours are circulating, fueled by social media updates from Dwayne ‘The Rock’ Johnson himself that we may have a good inclination into whom our next on screen Green Lantern will be.
It has already been confirmed that Johson is set to work on an upcoming future DC movie and recent social media including an instagram with the tag #JohnStewartCanStillWhupSupermansAss may suggest that he’s coming sooner than you think. IGN speculates that Johnson’s role of Green Lantern given his social media output would be that of John Stewart, which would make a lot of sense given the recent on screen incarnation of the first human Green Lantern Hal Jordan as played by Ryan Reynolds in the 2011 Green Lantern movie. With ‘The Rock’ as John Stewart it would give DC more scope within their movies with Stewarts character being a more dedicated and intelligent construct creator and would help further remove this Green Lantern from the perceived failure of the previous movie incarnations.
So when are we likely to see Johnson in the role if it is indeed true? Given the extended period of filming for Batman Vs Superman could this new Green Lantern be a part of that movie too along with Wonder Woman? Or as many have speculated will he be joining for a Justice League movie, of which many rumours suggest will commence filming back to back with Batman Vs Superman.
What do you think to the potential of both both the actor and character who could be our new on screen Green Lantern? Will ‘The Rock’ fit well alongside Affleck, Cavill and Gadot? I’m confident in the choice and think bringing the character to screen with an actor as well established as ‘The Rock’ is an excellent idea.
