The Penguin comes to Gotham!

Batman News has revealed an interesting rumour suggesting that one of the first of Batman’s core villains to appear in the new early Jim Gordon, young Bruce Wayne TV show Gotham will be none other than Oswald Cobblepot himself. Known to many Batman fans as The Penguin.

It’s fantastic to hear that one of the most notable and diverse of Batman’s rogues will be appearing in the show. According to the casting rumour this Oswald Cobblepot will be in his late 20s which suggests that the show will feature his rise to power over Gotham’s criminal underworld. This might even be the key overarching plot of the first season. It’s all very exciting nonetheless and suggests that Gotham will have a strong chance of gaining a sure footing and being another success on Warner Bros TV slate.

I for one can’t wait to see what they’ll do with the series, given the fantastic Arrow’s darker and mature world a Gotham realised in a similar way could be sensational. Of course tackling the addition of Batman’s biggest foes is a challenging one and requires subtlety on part of the show runners. Handled right of course, this could be phenomenal. Just hold off on throwing the Joker in for the sake of it, whilst we can’t argue his inimitable presence would be amazing, there are many richer and more diverse characters to be explored that live action hasn’t yet had the chance to touch.
