Spider-Man officially part of the Marvel Cinematic Universe

We’ve all been hoping that the day would come when the powers that be at Marvel and Sony would come together to decide the future of everyone’s favourite web slinger was as part of the MCU. Finally that day has come, in an announcement from both Marvel and Sony it has been said that a deal has been reached which will bring “The new Spider-Man”into the MCU with a first appearance in an upcoming Marvel movie before starring in his own standalone scheduled to hit cinemas on July 28th 2017. Sony’s Amy Pascal and Marvel’s Kevin Feige “will collaborate on a new creative direction for the web slinger” with the pair set to produce the first MCU standalone Spider-Man Movie.

Whilst no specific movie for the web slinger’s first appearance in the MCU has been announced we’d hedge our bets that he may well be included in the soon to film Captain America: Civil War which had been rumoured to be his introductory movie in the earlier leaked talks between Sony and Marvel. Given the characters important place and huge impact on the Civil War comic storyline, Marvel and Sony would be foolish to not capitalise on this by using this as his introduction to the MCU.

With Sony’s clear disappointment in The Amazing Spider-Man 2, and the mention in the announcement of a “New Spider-Man” does this mean that we’ll no longer be seeing Andrew Garfield suited up? The announcement strongly suggests that this could be the case, which of course begs the question as to whom could be the new Spider-Man? Perhaps Marvel and Sony will go for a fan pleasing curve-ball and reintroduce Tobey Maguire, though we feel he’s likely to old to return to the youthful character of Peter Parker now.

What do you think to the announcement that we’ll finally get to see Spider-Man fighting alongside our favourite MCU characters such as Iron Man, Captain America and The Hulk? Is this a fantastic move from both studios and most importantly who would you like to see take up the role of Peter Parker/Spider-Man in the MCU should a recasting be imminent?
