Michael Douglas comments on playing Ant-Man

After this weeks somewhat surprising casting announcement direct from Marvel that Michael Douglas would be stepping into the shoes of Hank Pym the original Ant-Man alongside Paul Rudds Scott Lang in the upcoming Marvel feature many were left surprised.

Another bold casting move from Marvel, showing that they’re willing to get bigger names involved with their movies, what with Robert Redford having a role in Captain America: The Winter Soldier and the recent rumour of Johnny Depp being approached for Dr Strange. Since the casting announcement IGN reports Michael Douglas has spoken to Reuters explaining “I’ve been dying to do a marvel picture for so long” he elaborated “The script is really fun, the director is really good. Dylan [Michael Douglas’ son] will love it. He’ll have a picture he can see”. Sounds great to us, but how will Douglas’ Hank Pym and Scott Lang interact in the movie and indeed could there be a chance that Hank Pym may be the villain?

Douglas recently won a golden globe for his portrayal of Liberace in Behind the Candelabra, it’s very exciting to see the Marvel movies really starting to pull characters from a crop of highly talented veterans that could really push these movies to the next level. Are you looking forward to Ant-Man?

Marvel’s Ant-Man is scheduled to open in cinemas July 31st 2015.
