Brand New are a band that shy away from doing anything by the norm, they’ve a hugely dedicated fanbase that both appreciates this un-traditional way of running things as well as the phenomenal music they produce. With the band aging and their lives progressing in other directions, it would be little surprise that they might be considering that it is time to lay the band to rest.

The internet is awash with confusion today after Brand New released a new line of merch on their Merch Direct store which shows three new tees of which two show the following timeline 2000-2018. Take a look at one of the shirts below to see this numbering for yourself:

What could this mean for the band? Well it’s likely in true Brand New fashion that they’re expressing to fans their desire to end the band and end it on a high note with two more amazing years of music and shows. With singer Jesse Lacey now 37 having previously stating he doesn’t see himself doing the band after 40 could this give us an indication to the true end date?

Lacey will turn 40 on July 10th 2018 which would marry up exceptionally well with this new string of merchandise and previous rumours surrounding his thoughts on the future of the band. Of course, it’s sad to hear that your favourite band is calling it quits, but if this does turn out to be the start of a full announcement then perhaps Brand New in their own unique way are guaranteeing a fantastic end and one both they and their fans can be proud of.

What do you think to the potential of the band breaking up? Could this be a deceptive technique, or, as is more likely is this a smart and engaging way of the band gently breaking the news to fans. Let us know your thoughts in the comments.
